Aftek and C-DAC To Provide Solutions For Transport Industry

[Mar 17, 2004]
AFTEK Limited and the Center for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) have recently signed a MoU for providing solutions to the transport industry.

Ashutosh Humnabadkar, Vice-President (Products) said 'The tie-up includes promoting C-DAC's 'Mobile' software, joint development for porting 'Mobile' on the Windows platform and integrating it with AFTEK's 'Depot Manager'. Under the terms of the agreement, AFTEK will be the nodal agency to demonstrate and market C-DAC's 'Mobile' software in the overseas market.'

Commenting on the new partnership with AFTEK, Dr Medha Dhurandhar, Programme Coordinator, Business Computing Group (BCG) said, 'This tie-up leverages on the complementary strengths of both the companies. The partnership has created a powerful product portfolio consisting of operational and optimizing systems. We are very confident that the adaptation of these systems will have a major and a positive impact on the operational costs and profits of the customers.'

Harnessing the technological expertise and experience garnered through its R&D initiatives, C-DAC has made expansive forays into developing solutions to optimize and streamline operations in sectors such as Finance, Healthcare, Power, Steel, Defense and Telecom. C-DAC's Mobile, the operational optimization software, is a user-friendly, versatile package that deals with the Operational Planning Problem of any transport organization. Developed by the Business Computing Group (BCG) of C-DAC, 'Mobile' offers an optimal solution for linking resources (vehicles/crew) to routes. The package performs effective vehicle/crew scheduling and facilitates maintenance management to avoid practical problems like bunching of vehicles. The higher the level from which a problem is tackled, the package offers a greater scope for optimization.

AFTEK's Depot Manager, a Windows based client-server software, is used at the depots for accepting data from the Electronic Ticketing Machines and generating MIS reports to facilitate effective scheduling using information such as Revenue Per KM, route-wise passenger pattern, conductor-wise cash collected, etc. A large number of bus operators have been able to improve their operational efficiency using this solution.
